For most people, getting married is their first experience with a professional photographer. So here are a few tips to help you get ready for the big day.

1. BE YOURSELF IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA

With a documentary approach to wedding photography, you don’t always have to pose. Your photographer might stage a few shots and give you some direction, but most of the time, they’ll let you be yourselves in front of the camera. My number one tip: don’t feel like you always have to look at the camera and smile. If your photographer isn’t saying anything, just forget about the camera.

2. MAKE THE LITTLE MOMENTS SPECIAL

Every wedding and every couple is unique. I think it’s important to highlight what makes you YOU. So, never be afraid to personalize every moment of the day with something that represents you. Your favorite song, your “inside joke,” an object that reminds you of your relationship, etc. This also applies to family photos and photos of the wedding party: for example, your group of guys and their traditional handshake.

3. EMOTIONS ABOVE ALL

Never hold back from laughing, crying, or being speechless during your wedding. All these emotions make every photo even more touching and memorable. Forget about the camera and live in the moment to the fullest!

4. TALK TO YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

It’s really important that your photographer understands your story and your needs. By telling them about yourselves, your relationship, and your vision for your big day, you’ll help your photographer become a natural part of this deeply personal occasion and create images that reflect who you are and tell your story.

5. PLAN A WEDDING THAT REFLECTS WHO YOU ARE

My final piece of advice would be to plan your day exactly as you wish. Your photos will mean so much more to you if you truly live out your dream day. The world of possibilities lies before you. Embrace the many options available, such as organizing a bocce tournament during the cocktail hour, going on a family hike after the ceremony, or grabbing ice cream around the corner for dessert. Your photos will be a lasting memory to remind you just how unique and special this day was. Enjoy every person there and every moment: that’s what matters.

Cheers, lovebirds! 🥂
