Wedding Trend 2023: Photographer's Top Pick

5 Wedding Trends 2023: My favorite picks for colors, wedding dresses, decorations, and centerpieces

I have a soft spot for intimate weddings where everything, from the dress to the decorations, feels more natural and authentic. Good news, because 2023 wedding trends are heading that way too, with smaller, more intimate receptions and soft colors. Weddings in 2023 and 2024 are going to be full of charm!

Here are my top picks from this year's trends.

1. Lavender: The trendy color for a 2023 wedding

This year, we're going for a neutral color.

Actually, natural tones and pastel shades have been at the top of wedding trends in previous years, and 2023 is no exception. We've seen a lot of nude, beige, and dusty pink tones. We're sticking with that vibe this year with lavender.

This color, which brings to mind serenity, fits perfectly into a natural setting. Lavender branches in floral arrangements or boutonnieres really give the wedding an authentic feel.

Do you have a colorful, festive personality and love things to pop? Well, I'm here to tell you that you can totally let loose for your wedding with a beautiful splash of color! Even though lavender seems to be the star color this year, we're also seeing a palette of brighter colors with super colorful centerpieces including lemon yellow, fuchsia, and blues. You can also ask your bridesmaids to wear colorful dresses. By combining bright colors with soft tones, you add some real pop to your photos!

2. Intimate Wedding Receptions: A 2023 Wedding Trend

Even though the number of guests isn't restricted anymore, the trend for more intimate weddings is still going strong. In fact, many couples-to-be are choosing to tie the knot in a more intimate setting with just a small group.

This leads to intimate, more authentic weddings with a warm atmosphere. And since newlyweds get to spend more time with their guests, it's possible to capture beautiful candid moments! What a great gift for me as a photographer!

An intimate wedding also lets you focus on quality for the reception rather than quantity. By inviting fewer people, you can save money by renting a smaller venue, having fewer plates to serve, and choosing a more minimalist cake. Some couples choose to use these savings to create a unique experience for their guests by adding activities.

If you're planning an intimate wedding, it's worth looking into renting a cottage! To get inspired, check out my article « 7 cottage ideas for an intimate wedding » !

3. Trendy Wedding Dresses in 2023

When it comes to wedding attire, there's obviously something for everyone. However, I have a soft spot for minimalist and a bit retro styles. The trend is inspired by the 80s. We're seeing puffy sleeves and delicate lace, which are being modernized with fluid fabrics, light materials, and a chic, classic style.

It creates a simple and elegant look, plus it's comfortable (a detail not to be overlooked when it comes to your wedding dress)! This look also works really well for an intimate wedding.

This year, we're also seeing two-piece wedding dresses combining a top and a skirt, and it looks like white pants will be trendy in 2024. I've also noticed a budding trend for sequined dresses and fringes (stay tuned!).

4. Wedding Decor: The Bohemian Wedding

The bohemian wedding theme is still super popular with couples-to-be. It fits right in with the other trends, both in terms of colors and reception size!

So, we're opting for natural materials for decorations and centerpieces. For example, you can go for wood or linen elements and combine dried flowers with small bouquets of fresh, seasonal blooms. Besides being trendy, it's more eco-friendly and gives off a cozy, welcoming vibe.

Add little touches like a flower crown and fairy lights for the final touch!

In a similar style, rustic weddings are also still trending this year.

5. Midday Weddings

With limited availability on weekend evenings, we're now seeing more and more daytime weddings. Some couples-to-be even go for brunch. It's a more budget-friendly and friendly option that works really well for smaller weddings aiming for a relaxed vibe.

You can also go for a weekday happy hour style (5 to 7 pm). Friday and Sunday weddings are also becoming more popular!

And for wedding photos?

On the photo side, I also love more natural results. No need to pose! It's in natural gestures and movement that I manage to capture emotions, intimate moments, and the sparkle in people's eyes. After all, it's the tears, the glances, and the joyful eyes that you'll want to revisit again and again to relive your most beautiful wedding memories in the years to come.

That said, there are some essentials you definitely don't want to miss on your wedding day!

First look photos

I absolutely love first looks! It's such an intimate moment, full of excitement and love that the couple shares before the ceremony. I just love capturing the joy and wonder on their faces.

It's totally worth planning for these kinds of photos on your wedding day. It's a special, quiet moment away from all the day's hustle and bustle, where you'll get genuine shots that just radiate happiness and emotion.

 Motion blur photos

I love taking a few motion blur shots during my wedding sessions. These photos add a more artistic touch to the newlyweds' album and create a magical, romantic vibe.

Either way, it's totally okay to have photos that aren't perfectly sharp, but rather capture the moment!

Photos in nature

While nature weddings have become super popular, so have outdoor photos!

I think they offer such natural beauty and a romantic vibe that adds a special touch to the memories of your big day. Nature is just the perfect backdrop to capture all the love and joy radiating from the newlyweds.

Natural light and the colors of the landscape just have that special something!
